Why is the sky blue?

6月 24th, 2008 by tannerbeasley

Why is the sky blue? A clear cloudless day-time sky is blue because molecules in the air scatter blue light from the sun more than they scatter red light. When we look towards the sun at sunset, we see red and orange colours because the blue light has been scattered out and away from the line of sight. The white light from the sun is a mixture of all colours of the rainbow. This was demonstrated by Isaac Newton, who used a prism to separate the different colours and so form a spectrum. The colours of light are distinguished by their different wavelengths. The visible part of the spectrum ranges from red light with a wavelength of about 720 nm, to violet with a wavelength of about 380 nm, with orange, yellow, green, blue and indigo between. The three different types of colour receptors in the retina of the human eye respond most strongly to red, green and blue wavelengths, giving us our colour vision

What was a women’s life like right before the Civil War?

On a plantation this would depend upon her social class - if she were married to the master of the plantation, she would do no housework - this would all be done by slaves. Her main functions would be to have children, to act as a gracious hostess during parties (which were frequent among the upper classes), to find husbands and wives for her offspring, and to attend charity functions. A farm wife would have a much harder existence. She too would be expected to bear children, but she would have to care for them herself (with the assistance of older children, sisters, and so forth). She would have done an awful lot of sewing, knitting, and probably spinning. She would cook most of the meals, help with the harvest, help prepare food for winter storage, help with planting, milk the cows, make the butter and cheese, make the apple cider and the beer, make the candles and the soap, do all the laundry, feed the chickens, haul water, and on and on. The labor was endless.

can my work check my home comp i have their client stuff so i can work from home etc?

It depends. Companies officially need to pay for a license for each computer in which software is stored. If you are using (lets say) Microsoft tools which you installed at work, if they have a license for your computer, then it’s fine, if not, it’s not official. Now, here is the grey part. Most companies reason that if they have a license for your desktop PC at work, then it’s OK for you to store it on your laptop as you won’t be using the laptop and desktop PC at the same time, so they won’t register the copy on your laptop. Generally, what I’d recommend is that you just install it, and work from home. Don’t mention what you have on your laptop if you are mentioning that you are working from home (just say I worked from home last night and did xyz). I’ve never worked anywhere where they’ve asked me for my laptop when I’ve left a company. They wouldn’t bother….it’s not worth their trouble to sue you. They won’t ask for anything while you work there unless you are in some kind of paranoid security environment. That being said. Normal companies won’t be a problem. Good luck -D

cantering help?

6月 24th, 2008 by tannerbeasley

Don’t worry about it so much…NO ONE started off with a great canter! It helps to remember that when your muscles are tensed, they are hard and rigid, and therefore cannot absorb any shock. On the other hand, if you threw something soft with “give” like a sack of flour over your horse while he was trotting, that sack wouldn’t move around too much because it wasn’t too rigid to absorb shock. You need to imagine that sack of flour as your muscles. Don’t try and grip or hang on when you canter, with your legs, seat, hands or otherwise. If you allow yourself to relax and LET your body find its center of gravity, you will find that the canter is really very easy to sit and you don’t need to hang on for dear life with your legs at all. So loosen ALL those tense muscles and let them be a sack of flour or a marshmallow in the saddle. You’ll get better with time!

WHAT Can I Do? I Can’t Do It AnyMORE! HELP!!??

You are not alone even though you feel you are. When I was your age and my life was similiar…I got involved in every activity that I could walk, find a ride, or bike to. In the end I had a great looking college resume’. I was a peer counselor, I was a certified nurses aid at 17. I did tons of stuff with the park and rec. I was a school journalist. I did everything except sports…Not my thing..but it may be yours. Keep yourself busy and active. It is not your fault your parents can’t get along. They have to work it out on their own. You are just a kid. It is not your problem. However, if it get’s violent at home you need to call 911 or tell someone. I had to call the police on my dad once. He didn’t hurt anyone but in a fit of rage he literally destroyed our whole house. You can’t help them, so help yourself! Stand Strong always!

Cramps while running?

6月 24th, 2008 by tannerbeasley

Gas is a very serious concern; so if you have tried Gas-X (or similar) and it didn’t work, then it’s something else. Two major organs that can hurt from running are in that area: Large Intestine and diaphragm. If the large intestine gets gas stuck in it when the abdominal muscles tighten…oh, sorry, that’s gas again. if you are running pretty hard, you can also make your diaphragm hurt, just like any other muscle (the diaphragm pushes the lungs). Some folks think breathing through your nose might help. The truth is, if you run slowly enough that you can breath through just your nose, then you are unlikely to be running hard enough to hurt yourself in any way, including not stressing your diaphragm. Muscles take time to strengthen, so if you can tone down the workout when the pain starts, that will help. I used to get these early in the season when I was not yet in racing shape, and I would stop for a minute to let it cool down then run again. Over time, it got stronger and the pain stopped occurring. I have also hyper-ventilated then held my breath running to give the diaphragm a rest, but you should only do this in a race. If your time is not critical, it’s way better to just stop, let it feel better the resume running.

Predictive Genetic Screening?

6月 24th, 2008 by tannerbeasley

It is important because the child’s mental health may be affected by knowing it MAY(heart disease, diabetes, breast cancer, etc) or WILL (Huntington’s disease, Alzheimer’s disease) develop a disease later on in life. It can be depressing to KNOW . Also if insurance companies find out the results, they may deny the person insurance or raise their insurance premiums. On the other hand if the screening is done in the womb, people might decide whether to have an abortion or not for some genetic disorders (Down’s syndrome). People being tested might want to know whether they carry a gene or not in deciding whether or not to have children .(Huntington’s Disease) or with having children with WHO, if it is a disease requiring two recessive genes to have the disease. For disease like heart disease, diabetes or breast cancer that have possible environmental causes along with genetic, people might make lifestyle changes early on to PREVENT the disease possibly (like low fat diet or exercise or low sugar diet, etc). The denial of insurance is the most heavy and the most troubling consequence. This may lead people not to get tested for fear of discrimination and then if they carry a gene, they won’t know it and may decide to have kids who may carry the gene and perpetuate the ongoing process of the disease generationally.

The apocalypse on 2012?

6月 24th, 2008 by tannerbeasley

The Mayan calendar proposes a tremendous shift in December of 2012. Scary in a way, because they formulated their calendar off constellations and fairly simple mathematics, and a lot of things they have proposed have happened. It’s not the “end of the world” per se, the Earth is supposed to be in the center of the universe, and the planets are supposed to be aligned perfectly, so some sort of catastrophic events are supposed to unfold on our planet. It’s estimated 2/3 of the population will be wiped out (due to earthquakes, floods, tsunamis, etc etc), and the remainder 1/3 will be offered a chance to relive the 3rd dimension as a “perfect world/life” OR progress into the 5th dimension, where there will be “just as much good and evil as there is today”, only intensified on both ends. Telepathy and all sorts of other things are supposed to be in the 5th dimension. It all sounds a bit far-fetched to me, but their calendar is so accurate and was created so long ago that it’s hard not to wonder ;)

why is it that every time my cockatiels lays fertile eggs she lays four.?

6月 24th, 2008 by tannerbeasley

Because she is average. “In the wild, a cockatiel normally lays from 3 to 10 eggs per clutch depending on the maturity of the birds and the time of year. I don’t know how many of these live through weaning in the wild, but in captivity very few could raise ten babies to fledging/weaning. Cockatiels in captivity generally lay between 3 and 8 eggs per clutch with the average being around 4 to 5 per clutch. The incubation period starts when the hen or pair start sitting on the eggs constantly. Some hens may wait until the 3rd egg to begin the incubation process, so all eggs will hatch close to the same time. Generally though, the hen will start incubating the eggs by the time she lays the 2nd egg. The normal incubation period for cockatiel eggs is between 18 and 21 days (from the day the hen or pair start sitting the eggs). The male and female generally take turns sitting on the eggs and do this in shifts. Some pairs will divide the eggs and each sit on half of them. They will also share the responsibility for feeding the chicks. Eggs will generally hatch every other day. From my observations, the eggs generally hatch in the early morning hours.” http://www.birdsnways.com/wisdom/ww22eiv.htm
